and thank you for visiting my website. It is designed to provide information for my constituents and to introduce you to Inverclyde — the finest Constituency in the land — where I was born and grew up. If you are unfortunate enough not to live in Inverclyde then you can find out who your Member of Parliament is through the House of Commons Information Office. I share an office in the constituency with local MSP Duncan McNeil and we hold regular advice surgeries, details available on my contact page. After the boundary reorganisation in 2005 Port Glasgow, Kilmacolm and Quarriers village joined my constituency and the MSP for this area is Trish Godman with whom I work closely. Since Devolution, certain matters have been devolved to Holyrood — click here to see what is the responsibility of Westminster and the Scottish Parliament. Also on this site youll find my views on various issues, my press releases (if youre a journalist) and some photographs of my activities in the constituency.
MP AND MSP MEET ENGINEERING APPRENTICES AT GLASGOW AIRPORT Local MP David Cairns and Duncan McNeil MSP met Inverclyde apprentice engineers Darren Laughlin and David Struthers during a recent visit to British Airways Maintenance at Glasgow Airport. Both lads are third year engineering technician apprentices, and fought off stiff competition from over 300 other applicants of win places on BA’s coveted apprenticeship scheme. All of British Airways planes used within the UK, including Boeing 737s and the Airbus fleet, are maintained at Glasgow Airport Duncan said: “The Watt College works closely with the British Airways Maintenance Group at Glasgow Airport. They offer a general course for youngsters interested in aircraft engineering and one specifically tailored for BA apprentices. It’s a great example of how partnership working can prepare our young people for good quality apprenticeships with nationally recognised companies.” David added: “Modern apprenticeships like this give the next generation the chance to get first hand experience of the world of work and continue Inverclyde’s proud engineering tradition. Both lads thoroughly enjoy working on the planes and are looking forward to becoming fully-fledged engineering technicians. As someone who flies to London regularly I feel safe knowing that the planes have been maintained by good Inverclyde workers.” Bill Armstrong, General Manager of BA Maintenance Glasgow at Glasgow said: “British Airways have a long history of maintaining aircraft at Glasgow Airport since the late 1960’s and we are proud to be part of the West of Scotland’s passion and talent for engineering. Our modern apprentices are a continuation of our developing expertise and a key part, alongside their 240 colleagues, for the future of our business here at BAMG.” |
