“WATERFRONT REGENERATION MUST BENEFIT ALL.” INVERCLYDE’S MP SETS OUT THREE KEY STEPS TO SUCCESS
The regeneration of Inverclyde’s waterfront is beginning, and local MP David Cairns is determined to ensure that everyone benefits from the riverside renewal. In a Labour Party Newsletter to be distributed throughout the constituency David sets out a three point plan to ensure that whole of Inverclyde gains from the waterfront expansion, and that local people share the benefits of the new development. In the last year David has travelled to Leith, Cardiff and Glasgow to study the riverside renewal in these areas and to see what lessons can be learned for Inverclyde.

COUNCIL'S HOUSING BENEFIT SYSTEM NEEDS FURTHER IMPROVEMENT
Inverclyde Council’s handling of Housing Benefit claims received a mixed review in a recent report written by the Department for Work and Pensions. The Department sent in their Benefit Fraud Inspectorate Team after 2003/2004 figures showed that Inverclyde Council took 71 days to process new Housing Benefit claims – instead of the recommended 36.

Statement on plans for Health Board Merger
As the Member of Parliament for Inverclyde, I am deeply concerned about the quality, quantity and sustainability of health care provided to people in my constituency. Ever since the proposal to downgrade Inverclyde Royal Hospital and to close of Ravenscraig Psychiatric Unit was first published, the entire community has united in opposition to this retrograde move.
