GIVE GRANDPARENT CARERS MORE SUPPORT
Grandparent charities estimate that there are around 19,000 grandparents in Scotland acting as full time carers for their grandchildren. Currently the UK Government collects no official figures on just how many grandparents are in this position, or what benefits they are claiming. But that’s something local MP David Cairns wants to change. He’s backing calls for the Department for Work and Pensions to set up an enquiry to produce reliable statistics on grandparent carers and determine what kind of financial support they should get.
