January 2007 17.1.2007 18:42 MP URGES PARENTS TO USE THEIR CHILD TRUST FUND VOUCHER Parents in Inverclyde are being urged to use their Child Trust Fund vouchers to ensure their children have savings behind them when they reach 18. Surprisingly, figures published this week show that only 2084 of the 3340 vouchers issued have been used to open accounts for local children, and that’s something Inverclyde MP David Cairns wants to remedy. 16.1.2007 10:13 WORKERS SET TO GET AN EXTRA 8 DAYS HOLIDAY Over 5,000 workers in Inverclyde can look forward to more holidays thanks to new proposals from the UK Government. From October this year full time workers on a five day week will see their minimum holiday entitlement go up from 20 to 24 days, and next year it will rise again to 28 days. Holidays for part time workers will rise pro rata. 15.1.2007 09:12 CRACKDOWN ON ROGUE EMPLOYERS WHO FLOUT MINIMUM WAGE RULES Inverclyde’s Labour MP, David Cairns, fired a warning shot across the boughs of scrooge employers who refuse to pay the National Minimum Wage of £5.35 per hour. Tough new Government rules mean rogue bosses could be left thousands of pounds out of pocket after paying fines of £200 per employee. And companies that don’t pay arrears on time risk criminal prosecution and a further £5,000 fine. |
