February 2010 10.2.2010 19:31 CAIRNS WELCOMES NEWS OF MORE MONEY FOR WOUNDED SOLDIERS The announcement that servicemen and women injured in Afghanistan and Iraq are to receive increased compensation payments has been give a warm welcome by Inverclydes Labour MP, David Cairns. The statement was made in the House of Commons by the Right Honourable Bob Ainsworth MP, Secretary of State for Defence, and means that some one-off payments could rise by as much as 50%. 10.2.2010 10:20 INVERCLYDE COUNCIL'S COMMITMENT TO JOBS PRAISED IN PARLIAMENT Inverclyde Council’s commitment to the UK Government’s Future Jobs Fund was praised in Parliament by the area’s Labour MP, David Cairns. Inverclyde is the top performing Council in Scotland when it comes to the Future Jobs Fund and second only to Barnsley in UK wide terms. David pointed this out to the Employment Minister, Jim Knight, during Department of Work and Pensions Questions and urged the Government to make sure that people were able to get real jobs in important sectors such as construction. 9.2.2010 15:11 CAIRNS SLAMS DAFT LIB DEM PLAN TO MOVE INVERCLYDE INTO OUTER GLASGOW Local Labour MP David Cairns slammed Lib Dem plans to put Inverclyde in a new Westminster consistency called ‘Outer Glasgow’ as just plain daft and an insult to the people of Inverclyde. The proposal is part of a Lib Dem amendment to the Constitutional Reform and Governance Bill currently going thorough parliament and would see Inverclyde submerged in a huge constituency covering East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire. 8.2.2010 17:11 MP AND MSP IN TOP LEVEL JOB TALKS WITH SCOTTISH ENTERPRISE High level job talks will be taking place at the Parliamentary Office later this week when David Cairns MP and Duncan McNeil MSP meet Scottish Enterprise’s Director of Business infrastructure, Allan McQuade. This time he questioned the Foreign Secretary, David Miliband MP, about what is being done to divert Afghan farmers from this lethal crop.
