December 2009 23.12.2009 11:37 ALL THE BEST FOR 2010 There is no doubt that 2009 was a tough year for many people. The global recession and world-wide credit crunch took their toll. But as we look forward to 2010, there are many signs that we are tuning the corner, though there is still a long way to go. 15.12.2009 10:37 PM GIVES CAIRNS RE-ASSURANCES ON THE FUTURE OF AIRCRAFT CARRIERS The Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Gordon Brown MP, has told Inverclyde MP David Cairns that the Government remains committed to building two new aircraft carriers on the Clyde. The exchange took place in the House of Commons during a statement on the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Afghanistan. This re-assurance comes amid speculation that the carriers programme could fall victim to public spending reductions in the aftermath of the global recession. Work on the carriers has already begun and is expected to continue over the next few years, and has given a new lease of life to ship-building on the Clyde. |
