HECTOR MCNEIL’S EFFORTS BROUGHT IBM TO GREENOCK SAYS CAIRNS
The McLean Museum received an unexpected gift when Inverclyde MP David Cairns presented it with a portrait of one of his predecessors, Hector McNeil. Mr McNeil was the MP for Greenock from 1941 till his death in 1955 and is widely credited with bringing IBM to the area. The portrait used to hang in the old Keir Hardie House in Greenock and, when it closed, local Labour Party member Anne Kane looked after it. Sadly, Ann died, and her estate contacted David to ask if he would like the picture.
