NOTRE DAME PUPILS GRILL THEIR MP ON LOCAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES
Inverclyde MP David Cairns returned to his old school in Greenock on Friday 21st April to face questions from the entire Notre Dame 5th Year. David spoke to the young people about his time in the school and recalled how Inverclyde has changed dramatically over the intervening years. David also answered questions on a wide range of subjects, ranging from the Iraq war to the plans for Inverclyde’s regeneration.

CAIRNS BACKS GLASGOW’S BID FOR COMMONWEALTH GAMES
Inverclyde MP David Cairns has hosted a reception at the Scotland Office in London to boost Glasgow’s chances of hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014 in his capacity as Deputy Secretary of State for Scotland. The reception which took place at Dover House, the London HQ of the Scotland Office, on Tuesday 25th April was attended by MPs from all of Scotland’s political parties as well as the Scottish Executive Sports Minister Patricia Ferguson MSP and Glasgow Council Leader Steven Purcell.

DRY DOCK ORDER BOOSTS LOCAL JOB PROSPECTS
More than 250 jobs are to be created in Inverclyde by AMEC, the project management and engineering firm which has won a Ministry of Defence contract to provide a new floating jetty and infrastructure provision, in support of the new Astute class submarine for HM Naval Base Clyde, at Faslane.

MP ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON BEATING LOAN SHARKS
Local MP David Cairns has invited the Scottish Illegal Money Lending Unit to come and talk about how we can beat the loan sharks in Inverclyde. The Scottish Illegal Money Lending unit, which is funded by the UK Government, works out of offices in Glasgow and, in the short space of less than two years, they have amassed almost 100 cases on illegal money lenders.

DAVID MEETS LUNCH CLUB MEMBERS DURING PARLIAMENT’S EASTER RECESS
Lunch will be on the menu for the next two weeks as Inverclyde MP David Cairns visits local lunch clubs during Parliament’s Easter Recess. Although the House of Commons is not sitting for the next fortnight, David is making the most of the short break by getting around as many local groups as possible, and first on the agenda was the Salvation Army lunch club in Regent Street.

UPGRADE GOUROCK POOL FOR 2008 CENTENARY
Gourock MP David Cairns is joining forces with local swimmers to campaign for the town’s popular outdoor pool to be upgraded in time for its centenary in 2008. Regular swimmer John Burleigh was so dismayed at the lack of facilities, that he and some fellow bathers formed the Friends of Gourock open air swimming pool to try and kick start the upgrading. But the group ran into problems, and that’s when they turned to local MP David Cairns for help.

Scouts earn their Downing Street badge
Earning badges and winning cups is second nature to scouts, but the 32nd Renfrew and Inverclyde Scout Group has added something a little unusual to their trophy cabinet – a letter of congratulations from the Prime Minister. Last year Inverclyde MP David Cairns went along to their 90th anniversary celebrations, and he was so impressed by what he saw that he asked the Prime Minister to write to them to mark the occasion.
