June 2008

Constituency
This month I met with Gallagher’s to discuss the Port Glasgow retail development, visited both Sacred Heart Primary School and St Columba’s in Kilmacolm and went along to the presentation of prizes at St Andrew’s Boys’ Club. I also attended a charity golf event at the Port Glasgow Golf Club, dropped into the Volunteer Centre and went to the Notre Dame production of Oliver. Other meeting this month included ones with River Clyde Homes, the Big Lottery and HM Revenue and Customs. Several people from the constituency came down to see round the House of Commons and I also accompanied a local businessman to a reception for entrepreneurs in Downing Street.

Surgeries
June surgeries were held in the Parliamentary Office and in the Gourock library.

Scotland Office
Kept busy at the Scotland Office with meetings with the Scottish Chamber of Commerce, Scottish Whisky Association and the Electoral Commission. Also helped host receptions at the Scotland Office for Poppy Scotland, the gas and oil industry, the Trooping of the Colour and some German MPs. Additionally, I spoke at Scottish Questions on fishing, Carers’ Allowance and the postal service, gave evidence to the Scottish Select Affairs Committee on the Scotland Office Annual report and represented the Government at a Statutory Instrument debate on energy efficiency. Other meetings included RBS, Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, T-mobile, E & P UK.
