June 2007

Scotland Office
As part of my official duties this month I visited Allied Vehicles in Glasgow who make wheelchair accessible vehicles and went to Dounreay to see how decommissioning work is progressing. I attended a number of functions including receptions for the Earl Haig Fund and British Aerospace, a Pakistan Welfare Trust dinner, a celebration of the Act of Union, a Royal British Legion meeting, a celebration to mark 60 years of Indian independence. In parliament I represented the government in a debate on the Economy of Central Scotland, spoke at Scottish Questions and took part in various ministerial committees. At the end of the month, I was also honoured to be promoted in situ to Minister of State at the Scotland Office.

Constituency
During June I took part in a number of activities in the constituency including visiting the local bingo club, where I met members and listened to the management‘s concerns about the way the industry I taxed. I also went along to the kirking of the Council at the Wellpark Mid Kirk, and met with the Chief Executive of Riverside Inverclyde to review the progress being made at the Waterfront. Later in the month I went along to the Ardgowan Hospice to learn more about how they are trying to improve their service to people in Inverclyde and I also opened the Wemyss Bay annual fete, which was well attended despite some poor weather.

Surgeries
I held several surgeries in the Parliamentary Office in Greenock and one in Inverkip Primary School
