January 2010
Constituency
This month I had the privilege of attending the final mass for St Laurence’s Primary School before they move into their new building later this year. This was particularly poignant for me as my mother and several members of my family attended St Laurence’s when they were growing up. But times move on and the new building will give the children fantastic educational opportunities. Also went along to St Margaret’s Court sheltered housing complex to hear about the problems they were having getting showers installed. Attended Burns Supper in Gourock.
Surgeries
During January I had two surgeries in the Parliamentary Office and others in the Gamble Halls in Gourock, St John’s Church Hall in Port Glasgow, Craigend Resource Centre and the Kilmacolm Community Centre.
Westminster
Sat on several committees on delegated legislation this month, spoke on an important debate on IBM pensions and met with senior managers from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to talk about the Navy Buildings. Also met Beverage Brands who work for a company in my constituency, attended the launch of the Maritime UK manifesto and spoke at an Understanding Government course. Went along to a Royal Navy event, met the Thalidomide Trust and also representatives of the offshore oil and gas industry.
