December 2009
Office
This month I spoke with T-Mobile as part of my continuing dialogue with them about their plans for the Greenock site. I also went along to Carer’s Rights Day which was held in the Inverclyde Carers’ Centre and met dozens of local carers from all over the constituency. Later in the month I saw councillors and senior officials of Inverclyde Council at the Parliamentary Forum who updated me on what the Council was doing on a whole variety of issues. Additionally, I went along to the Trades’ Council where I met local trade unionists and heard about some of the issues they are facing in Inverclyde.
Surgeries
A very busy month for surgeries with two in the Parliamentary Office and others in Port Glasgow Town Hall, Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Branchton Community Centre and Boglestone Community Centre.
Westminster
Parliament was in recess for part of December so Westminster duties were a bit quieter than usual this month. However, I did sit on a committee on delegated legislation; I also asked the Prime Minister a question about the aircraft carriers being built by BAE, and received an assurance about their future; and I presented my Private Members’ Bill to try and make the recommendations of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch legally enforceable. Several constituents also visited London this month and I was pleased to be able to show them around Westminster.
