December 2007
Constituency
I attended a number of events during December including the Trades Council, where I had an opportunity to meet many local trade unionists in Inverclyde and listen to their concerns. Later in the month, I went along to the official launch of River Clyde Homes which took over the remaining council housing stock. And finally, I met with new superintendent of police in Greenock to discuss my concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour throughout Inverclyde.
Surgeries
In December I held several surgeries in the Parliamentary Office, and also in Gourock Library, Boglestone Community Centre and St Andrew’s Church Hall in Larkfield.
Scotland Office
This was a busy month at the Scotland Office. I met representatives from ITV, students from St John’s High School in Dundee, officials from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and also the Israeli and American Ambassadors. Additionally, I attended a dinner by the British Nuclear Energy Society, went along to the Ineos refinery at Grangemouth, visited Napier University’s biofuel research centre and Abertay University’s Real Time computer project. There were also events held by the Oil and Gas industry and the Scotch Whisky Association
